$100 - 120K/yr SUMMARY OF POSITIONThe Machine Shop Manager will be responsible for defining the needs of our machine shop, including controlling costs, ensuring quality, and meeting on-time delivery based on demand.
Responsibilities will include workflow planning, overseeing milling projects, as well as managing the CNC department.
FUNCTIONS Physically track jobs and/or parts in the machining department for status updates Estimate how long a machining project will take to complete, identifying any risks or areas to improve.
Organize and prioritize work to ensure timely delivery.
Ensure we are machining and utilizing the machines as efficiently as possible.
Maintain department budgets, and personnel plans and ensure adherence to them.
Set goals and objectives and develop methods to improve productivity and quality in a low volume, complex machining environment.
Ensure necessary information is available and programs are ready before jobs are going onto the 3 and 5 Axis CNC machines.
Implement continuous improvement activities utilizing lean techniques, process improvement, and variation reduction.
Work closely with all shop floor personnel to debug and optimize CNC programs.
Managing 10-12 highly skilled machine operators/programmers.
Determine manpower, recruit employees, assign, direct, and evaluate their work, and oversee the development of staff.
Provide and train staff, perform cross-training and work cooperatively across the site in resource management.
Recommend methods for improving employee efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities (such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchase of equipment).
Create an environment of mutual trust and support by encouraging employee participation and building team unity.
Observe and enforce shop floor cleanliness, ensure equipment preventative maintenance actions and documents are executed regularly, and upkeep pursuant to safety rules and company policies and hold assigned employees accountable.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (5) years of experience working in a CNC machine shop environment, with (2) years of experience in machine shop management.
5-10 years of experience in a similar position.
Experience in high precision machining shops.
Knowledge of CNC and CMM programming.
Experience in low volume production tight tolerances.
High knowledge interpreting blueprints and GD&T.
Proactive attitude towards work, teamwork, and cooperation.
Good communication skills and ability to build positive partnerships while working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Working knowledge of computer systems that integrate with CNC machines.
Experience in machining of all types of materials (aluminum, steel, graphite materials, etc).
Able to read and understand technical mechanical drawings, sectional views, part notes and dimensions and tolerances.
Working knowledge of computer systems and WorkNC software.
Must be reliable with a good work ethic.
Ability to work assigned hours plus overtime as needed.
Hours:
Will be working avg.
56 hours per week, occasional Saturdays M-F, 6am to 4pm CO.
